Lord Dowódca Jeor Mormont, znany też jako Stary Niedźwiedź, jest 997 Lordem Dowódcą Nocnej Straży[1], którą zarządza ze swojej siedziby, fortecy Czarny Zamek. Jeor wcześniej był głową rodu Mormontów i Lordem Wyspy Niedźwiedziej; porzucił swoją siedzbę na rzecz syna, Ser Jorah Mormonta i dołączył do Nocnej Straży.[2]. W serialu telewizyjnym w postać Jeora wcielił się James Cosmo.[3]

Appearance and Character

Lord Jeor remains an imposing figure in spite of his age, most brothers hold him in great esteem.[4] He has broad-shoulders and a stern gaze,[4] He has lost most most of his hair save for his shaggy grey-white beard.[5] He is a considered strong, resolute leader, a formidable battle commander and is also fearless in the face of adversity.

Jeor is always accompanied by a raven, which is constantly demanding corn.[5]

As Lord of Bear Island, Jeor marched to war under Lord Eddard Stark's banner during Rebelia Roberta. Within the next six years, he abdicated his seat in favor of his son, Ser Jorah Mormont, and joined the Nocna Straż. He rapidly rose through the ranks and was elected Lord Commander in relatively short order. Jeor Mormont was deeply concerned by the declining power of the Watch and the rising threat of the Dzicys beyond the Mur. On the advice of his First Ranger, Benjen Stark, he gave up the regular patrols used by his predecessor Lord Qorgyle in favor of a more random system, varying the number of patrols and the days of their departure, to make it more difficult for the Dzicy to know their comings and goings. Sometimes a larger force was sent to garrison one of the abandoned castles for a fortnight or a moon's turn as well[6].

When Jeor syn and Lord of his former house, fled to the Wolne Miasta to escape Eddard Stark's punishment for selling captives into slavery. He regained Longclaw, his house famous Valyrian blade, which his son left behind.

Gra o Tron

Lord Commander Mormont has Jon Snow named his steward to groom him for command. When he informs Jon of his father's supposed treachery, he has him watched.[7]

Jeor dispatches First Ranger Benjen Stark to search for the missing ranger Ser Waymar Royce and to determine the activities of Mance Rayder, the Król Za Murem. After the discovery of two members of Benjen's party near Mur, Lord Commander Mormont has their dead bodies brought back to Czarny Zamek for further inspection. During the night, the corpses (which are actually reanimated wights) attack the men of the Nocna Straż, killing several men, including Ser Jaremy Rykker. Only the timely intervention of Jon Snow and his wilkor Duch prevent one of the wights from killing Mormont.[8] For saving his life, Jeor gives the Bastard of Winterfell the Valyriańska stal bastard sword Longclaw, ancestral weapon of Ród Mormontów.[9]

Starcie Królów

James Cosmo as Jeor Mormont (TV series)

After informing Jon of his half-brother Robb's kingship, he has Jon watched again, just in case he heads south to join his brother.[10]

With missing rangers, the dead walking, reports of abandoned Dzicy villages, huge fires in the night, and Mance Rayder gathering his people, Jeor decides to lead a large expedition Za Murem to discover what's going on and to search for Benjen Stark. He takes three hundred men from Mur and marches north.[11] At Twierdza Crastera, Jeor learns that Mance Rayder is gathering his people at the Mroźne Kły, preparing to launch an assault on Mur. Jeor leads the expedition to the Pięść Pierwszych Ludzi, a good defensive position located on Mance's only route to Mur, and sends out three scouting parties.

Nawałnica Mieczy

While awaiting the return of the final scouting party, the Nocna Straż is assaulted on the Fist of the Pierwsi Ludzie by wights. The Nocna Straż force is broken and Mormont leads the survivors back to Twierdza Crastera, where Mormont is killed by his own men during a mutiny.[12]
