Krainy Zachodu with the major strongholds

A large part of the Krainy Zachodu consists of hills and mountains. Its lands extend as far west as the the hills of the Krainy Zachodu, between the Golden Tooth and Pinkmaiden, south up to the Goldroad, bordering on Reach, east up to the Morze Zachodzącego Słońca, and north up to the Ironman's Bay.

The headwaters of the Tumblestone and the Red Fork flow east into the Dorzecze. The main pass through the eastern mountains is guarded by the Złoty Ząb, a castle which controls access to the river road leading to Riverrun. Further south is the Goldroad, which runs east to Królewska Przystań. Deep Den watches the Goldroad, with Hornvale to the north and Silverhill to the south.[1]

The southern westerlands, which borders Reach, contains more flatland than the rest of the country and includes Cornfield and the forest by Crakehall. The Ocean Road leads south from the Rock past Crakehall to Old Oak and Wysogród in the Reach.[1]

Dostępność i naturalne bariery

Because of the numerous hills and mountains, the westerlands' eastward border with the riverlands is easily defensible, the main pass through the mountains is being guarded by the Złoty Ząb, a castle which which controls access to the River Road. From the south, the main entrance is the Searoad. It is more accessible than the Red Fork, but the forest at Crakehall gives the Westermen a good defense line. However, the westerlands is potentially vulnerable to attack from the Sunset Sea or the south as the coast is quite flat and can be more easily invaded.

Ważniejsze lokacje

  • Lannisport, this port city is one of the major ports of the Siedem Królestw and the largest city in the Krainy Zachodu.
  • Casterly Rock, the seat Ród Lannisterów, a fortress carved out of a massive hill of solid rock.
  • The Złoty Ząb, the seat of Ród Leffordów, which guards the main pass from the Krainy Zachodu into the Dorzecze.

Krainy Zachodu are not the largest, most populous, or most fertile part of the realm, but they are certainly the richest. Full of hills and crags, the land is dotted with mines from which pour gold and silver in astonishing quantities. There are goldmines at the Casterly Rock, the Złoty Ząb, Castamere, Nunn's Deep, and the Pendric Hills. Nothing is said of the number of people working in the mines or in other industries. There is some fishery in Lannisport and on Piękna Wyspa. According to semi-canon sources, there are settlements which become ghost towns once nearby mines stop producing ore.[2] Besides farming, there is also some fishery in Lannisport and on Piękna Wyspa.

According to a semi-canon source from 2005,[3] the westermen could raise up to fifty thousand troops. The Lannister fleet at Lannisport consists of twenty or thirty cogs, carracks, galleys, and dromonds, while lesser lords have two or three ships for patrolling. In total, the westerman float fifty or sixty larger ships, while longships are used for coastal defense.

Przed podbojem Andalów

Nothing is known of the time before the coming of the Pierwsi Ludzie. Like the rest of Westeros, the Dzieci Lasu probably lived in the Krainy Zachodu and fought with the Pierwsi Ludzie when they came. After the Pact at the Isle of Faces, the children only kept the forests. This means they might have lived near Crakehall.

During the Era Herosów, the legendary hero and trickster Lann the Clever got hold of Casterly Rock from House Casterly. According to legend he is the ancestor of the Lannisters.

Królestwo Skały

Some 6000 years ago, the Andalowie invaded Westeros. They fought with the Pierwsi Ludzie and the children. All regions south of Przesmyk were conquered by them. As the Andals forged their kingdoms, the Krainy Zachodu became known as the Kingdom of the Rock, with the Kings of the Rock presumably taking Casterly Rock as their seat.

Not much is said in the books about the history of the Kingdom of the Rock. Without a doubt it warred against the other kingdoms in Westeros. Ser Eustace of Ród Osgreyów mentions that a famous relative of his defeated an attack by the Kingdom of the Rock by killing the Lannister King Lancel V. Given their difficulty in defending the coastline, the Westermen most likely also fought with the Żelaźni Ludzie.

Era Targaryenów

After the invasion of Aegon Targaryen, King Loren mustered his armies to fight the invaders. Allied with King Mern of Reach, they assembled an enormous host, remembered as the Host of the Two Kings. However, they were no match for Targaryen smoks. King Loren escaped the battle and submitted to Aegon. His primacy in the Krainy Zachodu was confirmed by the Targaryens. Since this time the Krainy Zachodu have been part of the Siedem Królestw.

During the Pierwsza Rebelia Blackfyre'a, some Westerland houses kept a foot in booth camps. It is mentioned that some nobles supported Daemon Blackfyre. There are no Westerland supporters of Daeron I Targaryen mentioned. It is unknown if this means the Krainy Zachodu only supported Daemon Blackfyre.

During the Great Spring Sickness the coast of the Krainy Zachodu suffered under the attacks of raiders of Dagon Greyjoy.

Tytos Lannister

During the reign of Tytos Lannister, Lannister rule was purely nominal. Tytos was held in very low esteem and was basically ignored by his vassals. Ród Tarbecków and Ród Reyneów eventually revolted against his rule. Tytos's son Tywin led the campaign to put the rebellion down. Houses Tarbeck and Reyne were extinguished; their respective seats at Tarbeck Hall and Castamere were razed. Since this time no house dares oppose Ród Lannisterów in the Krainy Zachodu. Because of this unity, the Krainy Zachodu are a force to be reckoned with. Tywin's own prestige was so great and his capabilities so well demonstrated that he became Namiestnik Króla for King Aerys II Targaryen.

Rebelia Roberta

After the apparent abduction of Lyanna Stark, fiancé of Robert Baratheon, by Crown Prince Rhaegar and the execution of her father and brother by Aerys, a rebellion of Ród Starków, Ród Arrynów, Ród Baratheonów, and Ród Tullych began.

Before this time, Tywin had resigned as Hand, and for the better part of the war the Krainy Zachodu remained neutral. After the Bitwa nad Tridentem, Tywin chose the side of the rebels. The Westerland army sacked Królewska Przystań, and killed the Targaryen heirs to prove their support. After the crowning of the main rebel Robert Baratheon, he was married to Cersei Lannister to bind the Lannisters to his cause.
