Selyse Florent is the wife of Lord Stannis Baratheon. She became his queen after Stannis claimed the Żelazny Tron. Selyse is a fervent worshiper of R'hllor and a supporter of Melisandre. Within the ranks of those who follow Lord Stannis who believe in R'hllor are named Ludzie Królowej after Selyse.
Appearance and Character
Selyse is not a particularly attractive woman. she is tall and thin and has the Florent too large ears, pale eyes, a sharp nose and suffers from hair growth on her upper lip.
Selyse is married to Lord Stannis of Ród Baratheonów. It is a loveless marriage, and the two have little patience for each other. They have one daughter, Shireen, a sad little girl bearing a disfigurement from an ailment.
Selyse married Stannis around 287 AL. During their wedding Stannis' brother Robert Baratheon deflowered Delena Florent, a cousin of Selyse, in the bed made for the newlyweds. Delena became pregnant and gave birth to a boy, Edric Storm. Selyse later said to her husband that because of this they were cursed and they had no sons.
When Melisandre attached herself to Stannis, Selyse became her most fervent supporter and immediately took to worshiping R'hllor, the Lord of Light. When Stannis sailed for Koniec Burzy, he left Selyse and her uncle Axell on Smocza Skała. Selyse's influence on her husband became greater after Renly Baratheon was killed and Selyse's family went over to Stannis. Lord Alester Florent became Stannis' Namiestnik Króla and Selyse's brother Ser Imry Florent led his fleet. Their hopes were shattered when the fleet was destroyed on the Blackwater Bay.
After the Bitwa nad Czarnym Nurtem and the subsequent flight by Stannis's forces to Smocza Skała, Stannis remained enclosed in the Stone Drum, unwilling to speak with anyone. Selyse, with the help of her uncle, Lord Alester Florent, held court during Stannis's self-imposed silence. Selyse tried to help Melisandre persuade Stannis to sacrifice Edric Storm. The sacrifice of Edric Storm would supposedly wake the Stone Smok statue on Smocza Skała. Davos Seaworth prevented this and had the boy shipped off to the Wolne Miasta. Davos instead advised that the real enemy was in Północ. Stannis agreed and travelled with Selyse and most of his remaining army to Mur and defeated the invading Free Folk.
Uczta dla Wron
Taniec ze Smokami
Selyse is unhappy with her accommodations at Eastwatch and her treatment by Cotter Pyke. She demands that she be allowed to move into the Nocny Fort that was to be given to Stannis when repaired. When it was found that the Nightfort was habitable she left Eastwatch for Czarny Zamek with her daughter; the fool, Plama; her serving girls and lady companions; and a retinue of Rycerzs, sworn swords, and men-at-arms fifty strong. She was given the royal chamber in the King's Tower. Jon Snow thinks the flame like crown she wears is the only warmth Selyse has. She arranges the wedding of Gerrick Kingsblood's three daughters to her hand Ser Axell Florent and her Rycerzs Ser Brus Buckler and Ser Malegorn of Redpool. She claimed that Gerrick is the true King of the Dzicy, descended in an unbroken male line from their great king Raymun Redbeard. However, Gerrick is descended from Raymun Redbeard's younger brother, not the king and the kingship among the Free Folk was not hereditary. She also wanted Val to marry Ser Patrek of King's Mountain, but was rebuffed.
